About the University Hospital
Iwate Medical University Hospital
The Iwate Medical University Hospital was built based on a “ patient-friendly hospital” concept as one of the largest hospitals in Japan with 1,000 beds and 20 operating rooms. The hospital also maintains a doctors’ office, based on the principle that “ doctors and medical personnel should be near patients” to enable immediate action in case of a sudden change in a medical condition. For outpatients’ ease of navigation, special care was taken in designing navigation lines. In addition to state-of-the-art medical equipment, the hospital features the Advanced Critical Care and Emergency Center, a doctor heliport, and an energy center with the capacity to supply power for a week should external energy supply fail in case of a large-scale disaster.
